Overview
Unlike other phases of the water cycle that occur above ground – spring rains and rushing rivers - a good portion of the wastewater treatment process occurs underground.
In addition to protecting Lake Michigan by providing high-quality wastewater treatment, Veolia Water Milwaukee is also committed to providing educational tools and resources that help de-mystify the wastewater treatment side of the water cycle. This means explaining what's above ground and below ground.
Situated as we are on the shore of Lake Michigan, Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility makes the perfect setting for learning about the importance of cleaning wastewater before releasing it back into the natural environment.
We offer tours for interested groups such as schools and service organizations. In addition, for 5th grade teachers within the MMSD service area we offer the Water Box, a hands-on experiment kit complete with all the equipment needed for an entire class to perform 25 water experiments.
